Despite a few raindrops in the early afternoon, the 48th Annual Festival of Wheels, hosted by the Bluffton Lions Club, had quite a nice turnout as many residents and visitors made their way to the downtown area on Friday, June 19.
Main Street and part of Church Street were lined with automobiles as parking began at 2 p.m. Registration lasted until 5 p.m. and plaque winners were announced at 7:30 p.m. A total of 134 cars were registered. Of the registered cars, 25 cars were rewarded with a plaque, which made up the “Top 25.” In addition to Best of Show were Mayor’s Choice, Lion’s Choice and Sponsor’s Choice.
Best of Show, the event’s top prize, was handed out to Jim and Betty Rhoden – who own the 1964 Mercury Monterey that caught the eye of the Festival of Wheels’ judges.
Other winners were John Rindfuss who won the Mayor’s Choice award for his 1955 Sunbeam Alpine; Bob Zimmer who was given the Lions Choice award for his 1955 Ford Truck C-750; and Jim Hickerson who took home the Sponsor’s Choice award for his 1959 Chevy Impala. The “Top 25” winners are as follows (name - year and make of vehicle): Thomas Brumley – 1963 Dodge, Don Robinson – 1935 Ford, Tom Dotson – 1965 Chevy Impala, Chuck Stiger – 1931 Ford Vicky, Joe Tschuor – 1965 Pontiac GTO, Denny Scoby – 1934 Ford Coupe, Sharon and Bob Daniels – 1947 Buick, Bob and Jane Lammers – 1934 Chevy 2-Door, Mark Nessler – 1976 Ford F-250, Jim and Deb Huether – 1955 Chevy Nomad, Ed and Susin Warfel – 1955 Chevy Bel Air, Wayne and Darlene Sadler – 1968 Chevy Camaro, Matt Siefker – 1969 Pontiac GTO, Tom Harvey – 1965 Plymouth, Richard Margraf – 1966 Ford Fairlane, Robert Simmons – 1966 Ford Mustang GT, Delbert Henry – 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1, Delbert Henry – 1955 Ford T-Bird, Jed Marquart – 1966 Ford Mustang, Fred and Paula Junge – 1955 Ford Crown Victoria, Bonnie Miller 1977 – Chevy Monte Carlo, Glenn Vinz – 1965 Buick Grand Sport, Bob Farmer – 1961 Chevy Corvette, Paula With – 1957 Chevy Bel Air, Bob Blank – 1963 Galaxie Ford.

Awards were also given to the “best” tractor, motorcycle and golf cart. Winning the Best Tractor award was Mark Nessler with his entry of a 1945 Farmall BN.
